This Week's Sunday School Lesson, "The Blessings of Redemption", Romans 8:28-39, 5/2/2021

 THE BLESSINGS OF REDEMPTION

Romans 8:28-39

CALLED ACCORDING TO GOD’S PURPOSE

V:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

A. Those who love God follow His commands.

1. Those who love God will not be practicing sin.

2. All things work for those who are obedient to God’s commands.

B. The verbs work and love are both in the indicative present active tense.

1. All things are good for those who presently work and presently love

God.

2. Even though we have accepted Christ as Savior, we cannot expect

Things to work for our good if we are in sin.

3. We can be in Christ, but out of fellowship with Him.

4. We must repent of our sins and ask forgiveness for all things to work

For our good.

C. What we know is fellowship is the key to God’s blessing.

1. We have a right to God’s blessing because we have been called to them.

2. We have been called because God has a purpose for our lives.

3. The blessing that God bestows enables us to work to fulfill His purposes.

GOD KNEW US IN ETERNITY PAST

V:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

A. When did God know us?

1. Since God is omniscience, He knew us before the foundation of the

World (Ephesians 1:4).

2. God predestined or determine before the foundation of the world

That we would look like His Son.

3. God’s grace and mercy was working on our behalf before He started

Creation.

B. Since we were in the company of many foreknown, the body of Christ.

 Was determined before creation.

1. the word those or who indicate a select group out

Of many God foreknew.

2. Predestine means to predetermine or foreordain,

3. God predetermined our position as Christian before

Any generation was created (1 Peter 1:20)

C. The Firstborn are those redeemed through the death and resurrection

Of Christ Jesus

1. God foreknew and predetermined His honored family.

2. Knowing this, we have no reason to boast, because our salvation

Is not of our doing.

SECURITY IN REDEMPTION

V:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

A. God predetermined our position, state, and purpose as Christians in the

Body of Christ and no one can change that.

1. We can be talked about, threaten, and even killed but nothing can

Change our position in Christ.

2. No one can prevent us from fulfilling the purpose God has for us.

B. Christ died so that Gospel will be proclaimed throughout the world.

1. We were created for the good work of preaching Jesus.

2. As long as we are pursuing the good work, God according to

His grace will give us all we need to lift Jesus.

3. The purpose of Jesus taking on human flesh was to be lifted on

The cross so all could see His glory.

JUSTIFIED IN JESUS

V:33. Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died — more than that, who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

A. Notice that there are two classes of people.

1. There are those whom God has chosen for salvation.

2. Then some condemn God’s chosen.

B. We have already been justified for God with the death of His Son

On the cross.

1. No one has the authority to condemn what God has justified.

2. Certainly, some will try with lies and deceptions which is the

Work of Satan.

3. Satan has already been defeated, and victory is given to us.

C. The proof of the victory of Christ over Satan is His resurrection.

1. The empty tomb was proof of Satan’s defeat.

2. At His resurrection, all power over heaven and earth was given

To Jesus.

D. When the enemy comes against us and he will, we have Jesus as our

Intercessor, seated at the right hand of the Father.

1. It is the measure of faith that God has given us the will comfort

Us in troubled times.

2. When we put our trust in God, nothing can stand against us.

INSEPARABLE FROM JESUS

V:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

"For your sake we face death all day long;

we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

A. Christ's love for us is eternal. It began before the foundation of the earth.

1. Christ's love for us began before the angels were created.

          2. Christ's divine will for us cannot be changed by our circumstances.

         3. Christ demonstrated His love for us by dying on the cross.

         4. He became man to experience our trials, tribulations, hurts, pains,

And to provide the Holy Spirit for our power of endurance.

C. Christ redeemed us with His love by suffering the cross.

1. He died once and for all.

2. Our hope for salvation is in Him and noting changes His

Love for us or our love for Him.

3. It has been determined by God that we will suffer trials and

Tribulations to strengthen our faith in Him.

4. We are the light of the world and the world needs to see us

Suffering with joy and undying hope.

VICTORY IN JESUS

V:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A. When we are weak, He is strong.

1. God did not predestine us for failure, but success in eternal

Life.

2. We are more than conquerors because Christ strengthens us to

Be so.

3. Our confidence in Christ is based on what He did on the cross.

4. Our confidence in Christ is based on His power and authority

Over heaven and earth.

5. Jesus conquered death and gave us victory in love.

B. The Christian aim should be to endure the trials and tribulations of

This present time for victory is ours.

Galatians 6:8-10

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

1. God’s love is eternal and cannot change.

      Malachi 3:6

I the Lord do not change.

2. Before time was recorded, in the Garden of Eden, God

Promised us a redeemer because of His great love for his

Creation.

John 3:16-18

16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

3. God perfected His love with the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

4. We are made perfect in Jesus.
