Sermon: The Helper Has Already Come, John 14:26-27, John 16:5-13

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

JOHN 14: 26-27. John 16:5-13

Everyone needs help sometimes.

The covid 19 viruses started in China and spread rapidly across the

World killing millions of people. The virus is so deadly that the world

Economies were shut down, When the virus got to the US we were unprepared for All the deaths.

Updated January 1, 2021

As the year ended, the United States surpassed 20 million infections from SARS-CoV-2, and more than 346,000 deaths. Globally, cases rose to 83,832,334 and 1,824,590 deaths.

To date, there have been more than 600,000 death in us that are due to the  Covid 19.

In 2020 and 2021 we needed Help.

though the use of scientist, medical professions, and the US

Presidents, the LORD produced vaccines free to the American public.

Let's give God the credit for what He has done for us.

We cannot determine what tomorrow will bring. What we do know

Is God is our helper.  THIS IS A HALLELUJAH MOMENT

CAN YOU PRAISE GOD WITH ME?

Lyrics

My hallelujah belongs to You
My hallelujah belongs to You (everybody sing, say, my hallelujah)
My hallelujah belongs to You (every worshipper, lift your voice tonight, sing my hallelujah)
My hallelujah belongs to You (yeah, You deserve it)

You deserve it
You deserve it (You deserve it Lord, yes, You do)
You deserve it (You deserve it all, oh, Lord)
You deserve it (Father, You deserve it Lord)
You deserve it (You deserve)
You deserve it (You deserve)
You deserve it (You deserve)
You deserve it

John 14:26-31

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 16:5-16

5 "Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6 Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

12 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

I only have one point this morning.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

God continues to be our helper. In 2020 and the first half of 2021,

Businesses were shut down and many jobs were lost.

The good news is the virus is somewhat under control

As of today, businesses are opening back but they cannot find

Enough workers. Anyone that wants a job can get one.

None of what happened in 2020 and 2021 was coincident. It was God

focusing our attention on Him and His control of world circumstances.

God is now showing us that He is omnipotent.  Can you hear God saying

“I Got All Power”?  Only God can take a virus that started in China and

Spread It all across the world in the blink of an eye.

John 14:26

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

There is nothing new under the sun according to Ecclesiastes 1:9

This Covid 19 virus that is sweeping the world is nothing new. The virus

Of 1918 killed more than 50 million people and infected 500 million

People.

Our problem is we soon forget tragic events and go back to

The Same activities that put lives in jeopardy.

We have a ready Helper, a Counselor  to teach us ALL THINGS

We do not have to repeat the same mistakes.

We can be prepared for the next pandemic.

For the Holy Spirit to teach us, we must be ready to listen.

Since faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God,

There is a good reason to study God’s word.

We have lots of knowledge but do we have the wisdom to

Put knowledge in practice?

Proverbs 9:10-12

10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

11 For through me your days will be many,

and years will be added to your life.

12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you.

The vaccines that have been developed by the knowledge

God gave scientists and medical professions, have proven

To be successful in preventing infections; Against Covid 19.

Yet many Americans refuse to take the vaccine to save their

Own lives. Where is the wisdom in those decisions?

We tune our cell phone and TV’s to certain stations

Of interest. Folk are on the cell phone all day long.

We text folk. We read the text of folk we texted

We got to see what’s on Facebook. We want to know

Who did what and where that did it.  And when they

will do it again.

The average person spends 3 hours and 43 minutes on the

Cell phone each day, roughly 50 days a year.  That how

Much time we give the world who gives nothing back.

The most important thing we can do

Is  TUNE TO STATION HOLY SPIRIT

It is located on your cell phone under BIBLE

The Word says the Holy Spirit will teach us all things.

How will He teach and what will He teach?

God’s people are taught to walk and act like Jesus.

No man is capable of ordering his steps.

Man can make some good strides, but he can not see

All the dangers facing him and therefore cannot avoid them.

You have no idea when you leave in your car whether you

Will be involved in an accident or road rage directed at you.

The Holy Spirit can guide and protect you.

Psalms 91:3-6

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

The Holy Spirit teaches us the Words that Jesus preached and

Taught.

John 16:13

The Holy Spirit will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

WOW, You get intuition from the Holy Spirit. I am not talking about

Something new, but the use of knowledge already available to you.

Jesus is well aware of what you going to face each day.

The BIBLE gives us live examples of His foreknowledge.

In  Matthew 14:22     Jesus sent His disciples in a ship to the other side of the sea of Galilee, knowing that they would get caught in a storm in the middle of the night.

The storm was not designed to put their lives in danger,

1.     but to Test their faith.

2.     Jesus put the disciples in the storm.

3.     He protected Them in the storm.

4.      He brought them out of the storm.

The disciples learn that Jesus was in control of the storm.

The job of the Holy Spirit is to remind us to look at our

Trials as opportunities to grow.

The Holy Spirit reminds us that we are adopted sons and daughters of

The FATHER Through Jesus Christ.

When we are in trouble, we can cry Abba Father

Which is Father Father, a parenting relationship.

The Holy Spirit teaches us the goodness and the omnipotence of God

His grace and His mercy endure forever.

The Helper Has Already Come

HOW DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT TEACH US?

1.     He excites interest in our minds. Through the Holy Spirit

We have an interest in our soul’s eternal welfare.

2.     The Holy Spirit gives us the right focus on every truth.

When we study the Word of God, He gives us a clear

Understanding.

3.     The Holy Spirit refreshes our memory.

When we are trying to make a decision, the Holy Spirit

Reminds us of Word so we can apply it to our situation.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

To grow in the Lord, we must be purified. It is obedient to the Word

That makes us clean before the Lord.

John 15:3-4

You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you.

What God is saying, if you want MY help, follow MY commands.

You know the commands because Holy Spirit will remind you.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

John 16:7

But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go .  away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

Sometimes God closes one door and opens two more.

Jesus told His disciple He was going away. The door to their physical

Relationship was closed. Now Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father

Making intercessions for you and me.

The two doors are, Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father

And the Holy Spirit that indwells you.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

The text gives us the threefold mission of the Holy Spirit.

John 16:8-11

When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

1st The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin because men do not believe in Jesus.

a.     Unbelief is a sin

b.     Jesus taught us that when a father brought his son

Who was demon-possessed to Jesus disciples.

They could not heal the son.

Jesus asked the father of the boy if he believed and the father

Said, “Lord help my unbelief.”

Jesus commanded the demon to come out of the boy and

He was healed.

The disciples asked why they could not heal the boy.

Jesus replied, that this kind takes much prayer.

The Holy Spirit reminds us that prayer is an effective part

Of our relationship with Father.

Before we try to do anything in Jesus name, which should be

Everything, we ought to PRAY.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

2nd In regards to righteousness because I am going to the Father.

a.     The resurrection of Jesus from the dead was proof

That Jesus was innocent of the charges of His accusers.

b.     Jesus knew no sin, but he became sin for the rest of

The world, so we have eternal life.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

3rd In regards to judgment because the prince of darkness has

Been condemned.

a.     Satan bruised Jesus on the heal, but Jesus will cast Satan into

The eternal hell.

b.     Victory over sin has been won by the resurrection of Jesus from

The dead.

c.      All believers have been redeemed.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

God Allowed the pandemic to shut down the world to reminds us that

He is in control. The Lord used the airwaves to spread the virus

All over the world. We didn’t know what God was doing until the virus

Knocked us flat on our backs.

Early Thursday morning in Miami Florida a 12 Story condominium collapsed

And 160 people are trapped in the rubble.

They pulled a 10-year-old boy out of the rubble alive.

What I heard repeatedly from relatives who are waiting on information

About their loved ones was their faith keeps them going. They asked

For prayer.  They are still asking for your prayers.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

The comforter, the counselor, the Paraclete comes alongside us

When we are in grief.

When the unexpected happens the Holy Spirit, who has taken up residence in Us

Come alive in our hearts and minds.

When we accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, the

Holy Spirit sealed us until the day of redemption.

In 2020 the pandemic shut down churches.

But God provided a Zoom platform for us to worship from our homes.

THE HELPER HAS ALREADY COME

I don’t know what you are going through, but you got a Helper.

Jesus said ask the Father anything in my name and it will be

Given to you.

The Helper Has Already Come

You need a doctor, The Helper Has Already Come.

You need a lawyer, the Helper Has Already Come.

You got family Problems The helper has already come.

You need comfort in grief, The helper has already come.

Do you feel alone?  The helper has already come.

Need someone to talk to. The helper has already come.

AMEN

Bible Study Series: "The Living Hope", 1 Peter 1:1-9

THE LIVING HOPE

1 Peter 1-9

V:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

DEFINITION OF THE LIVING HOPE

My emphasis in this text is in verse 3,  A Living Hope.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Webster defines hope

Hope definition is - to cherish a desire with anticipation: to want something to happen or be true.

The Bible describes hope as the confident expectation in the truth

Of God’s Word.

It is hope that puts excitement into our lives. I remember when I was

A child I waited with anticipation for Santa Claus to bring my desire toys. Only to discover that it was believing in a lie.

God’s Word is true. It is undefiled and unchangeable.

When we put our hope in circumstances or events we can often

Be disappointed. Events are only temporary. They provide no lasting

Joy.

The LIVING HOPE is permanent and will never disappoint.

The LIVING HOPE is not based on us or others. The LIVING HOPE

Is not based on this world. The living hope is based on the Lord

And will never disappoint.

Christian hope is not self excitement, but Holy Spirit excitement.

Christian hope is eternally produced in the heart.

The LIVING HOPE produces courage, patience, and holiness.

GOD’S DISCUSSION OF HOPE

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

 Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Psalm 71:5

For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.

LIVING HOPE IS JESUS

Let's look at verse 3 again

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Praise be to God.  He is worthy to be praised. He is worthy to be adored

And honored.

God spoke and all things came into existence.  He spoke and made us

Into His image and likeness.

He spoke and by His mercy, we became sons and daughters though

The resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He spoke and gave us new birth in a LIVING HOPE.

Born dead in our sins but made alive in a LIVING HOPE.

The LIVING HOPE is eternal. The LIVING HOPE is permanent. The LIVING HOPE

Does not change with time. The LIVING HOPE  is not based on us or

Anything we can do. The LIVING HOPE  flows from God our Father.

The LIVING HOPE  is an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading,

Kept in heaven for us.

The LIVING HOPE  brings power into our lives. Jesus said that all power

Over heaven and earth has been given to me.

I have the power to be encouraged. I have the power to be enriched.

I have the power of a sound mind. I have the power to love those I like

And those I can’t stand, Because I got a LIVING HOPE. My LIVING HOPE

Is found and grounded in Jesus Christ.

Look at verse three again. The LIVING HOPE is driven by the great

Mercy of God.  His mercy endures forever.

V:4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

The stuff in my refrigerator has an expiration date. The stuff in my cabinet

Has an expiration date. My car has an expiration date. This body of mine

Has an expiration date.

But my LIVING HOPE has no expiration date. The text says my LIVING HOPE

Can’t change, because it is kept in heaven for me.

Matthew 6:19-21

19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Peter is trying to get us to not focus on today or tomorrow but the glory

That awaits us in heaven.

SHIELDED BY THE POWER OF GOD

Verse 5 says all the days of your life on earth, you are shielded by

Power of God. I have a part in this LIVING HOPE. I must operate in faith.

My LIVING HOPE informed me and keeps me informed that my

Salvation is stored up in Heaven until Jesus returns for His church.

When things get rough, the LIVING HOPE reminds us that this is not

Our home, we are just passing through.

The LIVING HOPE, the Gospel of Jesus Christ reminds me that God’s

Mercy is overflowing to the worst of sinners.

LIVING HOPE BRING JOY

V:6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed

When things are rough, when nothing is going my way, when I am facing trials

And tribulations, I have to THINK MYSELF HAPPY.

It is that LIVING HOPE that reminds me that there is a reason for my

Troubles.

1.     Troubles are placed in our lives to refine our faith.

2.     Troubles are placed in our lives to build up our faith

3.     Troubles are placed in our lives to prove the genuineness

Of our praise.

a.     The genuineness of our honor to God

b.     The genuineness of our glory to God,

When Jesus come back for His church, he want be looking for

Fake worshippers.

We sang a song; My Worship is for real.

When you can praise God when you are down, that’s genuine praise.

When you can thank God for the bad times, that genuine praise.

When you say Hallelujah  when you get up in the

Morning, that’s genuine praise.

When you can see the calm in the middle of the storm, that LIVING HOPE.

When you spent your last dollar, but see treasures in heaven

That’s LIVING HOPE.

The objective of your troubles is the praise, glory, and honor of the

Lord.

Sometimes God got to get crazy with us to make give Him

The Glory.

Nobody ought to make me say thank you Lord for all you do

For me. That ought to be the issue in my heart.

It’s the LIVING HOPE that makes it my issue.

LIVING HOPE GROUNDED IN LOVE

V:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

A.    The result of  the Living Hope is strong and increasing Faith

1.     Peter’s letter was written to the Christians scattered from

Jerusalem to other areas because of persecution.

2.     Peter commends them for their undying faith.

B.     It is good to encourage in the middle of your struggles.

1.     We should encourage others to love Jesus

2.     We should encourage others to believe that His words

Are True and apply to them.

3.     We should joyful  in Jesus in the midst of our trouble,

4.     We should pursue a state of mind that is filled with

Inexpressible joy.

5.     We should pursue a state of mind that is filled with a

Glorious joy.

C.   THE GOAL OF LIVING HOPE

1.     Growing faith through trials

2.     Salvation for our souls

3.     Inexpressible Joy

4.     Inexpressible peace

5.     Thankfulness

6.     Gratefulness

7.     The love of Jesus Christ

8.     Confidently expecting a positive outcome

9.     Confidence in the truth of God’s Word.

10. A home in glory
