Bible Study Series : Do You Have A Light?, Genesis 1:3-5

DO YOU HAVE A LIGHT?

Genesis 1:3-5

THE ORIGIN OF LIGHT

And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.

From the beginning, two types of light are introduced, spiritual and physical.

God used the spiritual light to draw us to His Word which introduces the

Physical light.

2 Samuel 22:29

You are my lamp, O Lord;

the Lord turns my darkness into light.

Psalms 119:130

30 The unfolding of your words gives light;

it gives understanding to the simple.

God uses different ways and methods to draw us to His Word.

It may be a parent, a friend, the TV, or our curiosity about

The world. Once introduced to God’s Word we become spiritually

Enlighten.

The Word introduces us to the origin of light. The author and the creator

Of light is God.

1 John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him, there is no darkness at all.

From this verse, we get a sense of spiritual Light.

THE SCIENCE OF LIGHT

If we look at Genesis 1:3-5 closely we will see that God introduces us to His

Creative process. Knowing what we know about the Solar System, we get a

A vague understanding of the awesomeness of God.

The source of physical light is the Sun which God set in place; a big ball of

Burning gas.

God created and set the planets in orbits around the Sun.

He placed each planet on an axis to rotate. Looking at Genesis 1:4-5

We can gleam that it is the rotation of the planet earth on its axis

that produces a period called day, then a period called night. This rotation

is an unending process.

Genesis Chapter 1 gives a sense of the unlimited power of God.

We get a sense of the unlimited knowledge of God.

We get a sense of the divine purpose of God to create

A universe that gives Him praise.

We get a sense of the will of God to take His created out of

Darkness to behold His glory.

Take a look a Genesis 1:4 again. God created light and darkness fused

Together. For what purpose?

One cannot exist without the other.

We were born in sin and shaped iniquity. But there was light deposited in

Us by the creator.

Note, light and darkness have their time. God set a time for light and

Called it day. God set a time for darkness and called it night.

The light was set aside for work. Darkness was set aside for rest

And relaxation.

Let me suggest that nothing exists without light. Let me suggest

That nothing living exist without light

John 1:3-6

Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Let me suggest that we all exist in shades of light and shades of darkness.

There is some good in us along with some bad. There is some knowledge

In us along with some ignorance.

We need the light to understand the darkness. We need the darkness to appreciate The light.

THE DIVINE REALITY OF LIGHT

A.    LIGHT IS DIVINELY PRODUCED.

1.     It was God who called light into being.

2.     God is an excellent chemist.

a.     The sun is a ball of gas; 70.6% hydrogen, and 27.4% helium

Fused to produce a ball of fire.

3.     Light is motion.

a.     It takes 8.3 minutes for light from the sun to reach

The earth 93 million miles away.

b.     The speed of light is 186000 miles per second.

4.     Light is necessary for life.

a.     Plants cannot survive without light

b.     Man cannot survive without light.  He would go into

 the mode of depression.

Sunlight is essential for human health and well-being. The health benefits of sunlight include generating the production of vitamin D, supporting bone health, lowering blood pressure, preventing disease, and promoting good mental health.

5.     God divinely produced Sunlight to protect the one He made in His own

Image and likeness; man.

You cannot get away from God’s light.

Psalms 139:7-8

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

E.     God’s light is all revealing

THE DIVINE BLESSINGS OF LIGHT

OUR SELECTION

1 Peter 2:9-10

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

OUR PREPARATION

Matthew 4:18-20

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

As we study God’s Word we grow in the spirit. We are to become

Disciples of Jesus to influence others to become disciples.

OUR POSITION

James 1:16-18

my dear brothers. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

We are chosen sons and daughters of the Father.

OUR MISSION

1.     Matthew 5:13

"You are the salt of the earth.

Salt is a preservative. We must see our mission  to preserve those

Around us from self-destruction by proclaiming the gospel of truth.

2.     Matthew 5:14

"You are the light of the world.

Light illuminates the minds of men and women to the advantages

Of the righteousness of God over the sins of the flesh.

OUR CHARACTER

Psalms 89:15-16

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,

who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord.

16 They rejoice in your name all day long;

they exult in your righteousness.

We are the living examples of the joy found in walking with

Jesus.

OUR REWARD

1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Our reward while we live is all the promises of God. Our eternal reward is life with Jesus.

THANK GOD FOR CHOOSING US FOR LIGHT
