This Week's Sunday School Lesson, "When Christ Returns For His Church", Psalms 110:1-7, 3/22/2020

WHEN CHRIST RETURNS FOR HIS CHURCH

Ps 110:1-7

This a prophecy of the End Times when Jesus will return for His
Church and put an end to sin.  There are several major events
Leading to the end times.
   1. The current Church Age will end with the second coming
        of Jesus,
   2.  There will be a 7 year tribulation period
   3. Satan and his demons will be cast into the lake of fire
   4. The judgment of nonbelievers

   5. Judgment of believers
   6. Current heaven and earth burned up
   7. A new heaven and new earth created

JESUS ON THE THRONE
V:1. The Lord says to my Lord:
"Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet."
A. This is a prophecy about Jesus Christ
    1.  The Lord ( Yehovah: self-existent) says to

         My Lord (Adoni: sovereign, master)
    2. The Lord said to himself; since Jesus and the Father are one.
         Act 2:34
    3. Notice David claimed Jesus as his master.
    4. Like David, we should be quick to claim Jesus as Lord

        over our lives.
    5. Consider the fact that God revealed to David, Jesus the Messiah
900 plus years before He was born in the flesh.
    6. God gave David a voice in his present time that is still in
        valid in our present time.

B. Once we claim Jesus as our Lord, then we can see what the
Father does with the Son to glorify Himself for our sakes.
  1. Sit at my right hand.
     a. The right hand of the Father is considered the position of
         power and authority.
     b. Jesus once resurrected from the dead and  was seated at the right hand
          of the Father.

     c. All power over heaven was given to Him.
C. Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
    1. The enemy of Jesus and all believers is Satan.
    2. We enable Satan’s effectiveness with our disobedience.
    3. Jesus said if I am lifted up, I will draw all men to Myself.

    4. Our problem is our failure to lift up Jesus.
    5. Jesus allowed Himself to be lifted up on the cross, thus
making Satan and his demons His footstool.

Imagine the rulers of Israel who had Jesus killed facing Him on judgment
Day
How will they answer Him when asked why they did not believe?
How will they answer when He asks why they sold his life for 30 pieces of silver?
How do we answer Jesus when He asked us why didn't we trust Him

Daily?

D. Victory over Satan and his demons were confirmed with the resurrection

of Jesus from the dead on Sunday Morning.

1 Cor 15:55-57
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus
  Christ

THE CHURCH AGE
V:2. The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion;
you will rule in the midst of your enemies.
A. The kingdom rule of Jesus is established and ordained
     By Jehovah the self-existent one.

   1. Jesus rules from the center of religion, His heavenly throne.
   2. He is ruler over the enemy, Satan.
B. The Lord does not do away with our enemies, but He is
    always in control.
   1. We are confronted by our enemies daily, but we are assured
       of victory over them.
   2. Our enemies can do nothing to us unless God allows it.
Jesus prepares a table before us in the presence of our
        enemies. (23 Psalms).

   3. Faith grows through trials and tribulations. James says this;

      James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many
kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops
      perseverance.

THE FINAL BATTLE AGAINST SATAN
V:3. Your troops will be willing
on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy majesty,
from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth.
A. The final battle with Satan and his demons is presented in the book of
     Revelations
  1. The angelic army of angels are ready for the final
       battle with Satan.
  2. They will be clothed in holy garments and to numerals
       to count.
B. All believers are God’s army against Satan and his demons
     in the present time.

   1. We should be ready to engage in the daily battle against
       Satan.
   2. We are equipped with the holy armor of God to stand against
        the devil.

Eph 6:13-19
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

C. The Lord does not ask us to fight a battle against Satan.
    1. The Lord commands all believers to stand firm against the wise
         of the devil.
    2. We have to stand against every evil temptation.
    3. It is a deliberate choice we should make every waking moment
to stand against the devil and his demons.

    4. We are God army on earth, a role model to the world for the
        the righteousness of our Lord.

    5. The victory over Satan has been won.
    6. It is up to each believer to live a victorious life, trusting
       the Word of God.

PROMISE OF AN ETERNAL PRIESTHOOD
V:4 The Lord  has sworn and will not change his mind:
"You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
A. Jesus is our eternal King
    1. He has no beginning and no end.

    2. He is the High Priest over all believers.
B. We have been blessed with Jesus as our intercessor to
      God the Father.
   1. According to verse 4, Jesus will always be our High
       Priest.
   2. According to Ephesians 1:11

       Eph 1:11-12
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the
plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of
his will,  in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be
for the praise of his glory.

THE GREAT TRIBULATION
V:5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his
       wrath.
A. We are now in the Church Age,
    1. This period will come to an end at the second

coming of our Lord and Savior.
    2.  God has not given us a time when Christ will return,
but we are assured of His second coming,

       1 Thess 4:13-18
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep
or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that
Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with
Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's
own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the
coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen
asleep. 16 For the Lord, himself will come down from heaven, with a

loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet
call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who
are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord
forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.

B. Following this, there will be a seven-year tribulation

     period.
   1. During the first 3 and half years, Saran will be free to deceive
       all nations of the world.

      Dan 9:27
He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven. In the middle of
the seven, he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of
the temple, he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the
end that is decreed is poured out on him."

    2. The second 3 and half years, Jesus will be at war with Satan
         and his demons.
    3. This battle will end with Satan and his demons cast into
         the lake of fire forever.

         Rev 20:10
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning
sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They
will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

JUDGMENT  DAY

V:6 He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead
and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.
A. God has recorded the names all who accepted Christ in the
     Book of life
   1. All those who rejected Christ are recorded in books (plural)

       Rev 20:11-14
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth
and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and
books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of
life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as
recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it,
and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each
person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and
Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.
If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was
thrown into the lake of fire.

B. This coronavirus which stared in one small place and has move
around the world in a short period of time, is just a wake up call from
Jesus for us to take the salvation that is Him seriously
    1. Hear what Jesus said to His disciples 2000 years ago concerning
        the end times.

        Matt 24:6-8
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not
alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There
will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the
         beginning of birth pains.

     2. This coronavirus is just birth pains.
     3. The birth of the New Heaven and the New Earth is in the works.

THE NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH
The current heaven and earth are corrupted by the sins of man.

God destroyed all mankind doing the flood except Noah and his
Family. Doing the end times everyone who rejected Christ will
spend eternity in the lake of fire,

Rev 21:1-4
21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.

THE RENEWAL IN THE NEW HEAVEN
V:7 He will drink from a brook beside the way;
therefore he will lift up his head.
A. There were times during Jesus earthly ministry when He

allowed Himself to be refreshed by the Father,
1, One of the things the Lord Jesus did often was to go
       in Prayer with Father.
   2. Jesus made it His business to get away from the crowd
       and send time in prayer.
   3. Jesus set the example for us to spend time alone with the
       Father.   Matthew 14:23
B. Jesus allowed Himself to be comforted by the Father
     Luke 22:43.
   1. We should take time each day to be refreshed, strengthen and
encouraged by the Word of God.

     Isa 40:31-41:1
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;   they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
