This Week's Sunday School Lesson, "Prepared To Serve", Exodus 24:1-11, 10/18/2020

PREPARED TO SERVE

Exodus  24:1-11

COME CLOSE TO GOD

V:1. Then he said to Moses, "Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance, 2 but Moses alone is to approach the Lord; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him."

A. One of the things we must learn is we can’t treat God any way we want.

    1. God is not one of the boys or sisters.

    2. We must reverence God.

    3. Notice God starts His instructions with Aaron and his two brothers

who would become priest and the seventy Elders.

    4. They came to the base of the mountain with Moses but

were commanded to stay at the base of the mountain.

    5. They did not have a relationship with God.

    6. The assembly of the seventy elders was the starting point of the

        teaching of reverence.

B. Only Moses went to the mountain top to meet with God.

    1. Moses had shown himself to be obedient to God.

    2. Moses has developed a special relationship with God.

        a. It was a relationship of trust.

        b. It was a relationship of total submission.

        c. It was a relationship where Moses put God first.

    3. You can have a special relationship God, if you

         obey, honor, and trust Him.

    4. Those who reverence the Lord are enlightened more than

who are partially devoted to God.

C. Those who don’t know the Lord can only worship Him at a

      distance.

      1. People may worship God with their lips and their hearts be

          far away from Him.

      2. The newly formed nation of Israel had not yet committed

          themselves to God.

      4. They had 400 years of idol worship in slavery and 90 days of

           freedom with a slave mentality.

STUDY THE WORD

V:3 When Moses went and told the people all the Lord's words and laws, they responded with one voice, "Everything the Lord  has said we will do." 4 Moses then wrote down everything the Lord  had said.

He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.

A. The start of Worship begins with Bible Study.

    1. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

    2.  Moses took notes in the presence of God.

    3. Often times when we leave the church we quickly forget the text

        the pastor preached from.

    4. Two are three days later we forget the message,

    5. God gives us the technique to remember His message:

         take notes.

    6. Moses didn’t rely on his memory. He wrote word for word

what God said and read that to the people.

     7. In Bible Study, our job is to interpret the Word that God has

given to us with the Holy Spirit guidance.

B. Notice in the text, verse 3, Moses the people ALL the words and

     Laws God gave him.

     1. We can’t pick and choose what part of the Word we want to

          study and follow.

     2. We need an understanding of the entire Bible.

     3. The Bible has some "do's" and "don'ts".  We need the

don'ts as much as the do’s.

C. Your worship of God should begin early in the morning

     1. Start out by putting God at the altar in your heart.

     2. Lift God up first and He will lift you up

D. The twelve pillow stones represented the tribes of Israel.

    1. When we come to God we come as a family.

2, God established family and family rights and boundaries.

    3. Every family ought to worship the Lord.

BRING A SACRIFICE TO THE LORD

V:5 Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord . 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, "We will do everything the Lord  has said; we will obey."

8 Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord  has made with you in accordance with all these words."

A. We are in a covenant relationship with Jesus. That was ratified with

      His Death on the cross.

    1. God set the blood covenant in motion staring with Israel

    2. God requires sacrifices from us.

    3. Notice it was called a fellowship sacrifice.

    4. The sacrifice had several parts.

         a. The selection of men who would serve as priests.

         b. The sacrifice of an animal

         c. The sprinkling of blood on the altar signifying the forgives of

              their sins.

          d. The sprinkling of blood on the Book (Word of God) and on the

people ratifying the covenant between God and Israel,.

B. All the people agreed to follow God’s commands.

It was the responsibility of the people to be obedient to God.

    1. We have that same responsibility today.

    2. The blood of ratification is Jesus.

    3. Each day we must agree to follow God’s commands.

SEE THE GLORY OF GOD

V:9. Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.

A. This group of men would be God’s representatives to the Nation

      Of Israel.

    1. God allowed them to come closer to Him to see His glory.

    2. They saw a pavement that God walked on.

    3. It was important to cement the covenant a with vision of God’s

        presence.

    4. When you have experienced  the presence of God in your

life, no one can make you doubt Him.

    5. I assumed the elders were the ones who proclaim the

         word with divine persuasion.

B. Today God has gifted preachers and teachers to proclaim

     Word to His people.

    1. We all play a role in proclaiming God's Word to

those we come in contact with.

   1. We must prepare ourselves for the job with constant

        study of God’s Word.

    2. We have been sanctified and justified with blood

         Jesus shed on the cross.
