This Week's Sunday School School Lesson, "Finding A Good Wife", Genesis 24:10-28, 8/4/2019

FINDING A GOOD WIFE

Gen 24:10-23, 26-28

ASK GOD FOR THE SPOUSE YOU WANT
V10 Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and left, taking with him all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaimc and made his way to the town of Nahor. 11 He had the camels kneel down near the well outside the town; it was toward evening, the time the women go out to draw water.
A. If you put your trust in God, He will find the spouse that
Fits you.
    1. There comes a point in time when you have let your
sons and daughters build there own families.
    2. It was common during Abraham time for fathers to
        arrange marriages
B. Abraham was under the covenant of God to provide a wife
For his son from his own people.
   1. The reason was that Isaac the promise son was to the
continue God’s covenant of being the father of many
       nation.
   2. The decendant line would come through the Hebrew
        family of Abraham.
   3. Abraham was probably 160 years old and want to insure
       progression of God’s promise.
   4. Abraham sent His trusted servant back to his home land
to find a wife for Isaac who would be the daughter of
       one  of his brothers.

CONTINUE IN PRAYER UNTIL YOU HEAR FROM GOD
V:12-13. Then he prayed, "O Lord , God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. 13 See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. 14 May it be that when I say to a girl, 'Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too' — let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master."
A. There are several things we learn from this passage.
     1. Abraham had taught Isaac the to fear God.
     2. Abraham had taught all of his servant to fear God.
     3. Abraham had taught his servant how to pray to God
and how to trust God in all their situations.
    4. Train up a child in the way he should and when he gets
        old he will not depart.
B. To insure that his servant would follow his directions,
Abraham  made a covenant with his servant that the wife he
selected  would be from his family.
1.   Notice that the servant who did not know Abraham
Relatives went into prayer and asked God to do the
Selection for him.
2.   The servant gave God the sign that he wanted so he would
Know His selection.
3.   It is alright when we are moving into unknown situations
To ask God give you a sign for clarity.
4.   God expects us to come to Him for our directions.
5.   The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

WHILE YOU ARE PRAYING, GOD HAS WORKED IT OUT
V:15-16. Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor. 16 The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.
A. While you are praying, God has already worked it out.
   1. When your situation requires an immediate response
from God, He will give it to you.
   2. The trick is to recognize God’s voice.
   3. Also when God gives you an answer you need to act on
       his directions.
  4. There may be times, the answer God’s gives is not what
       you want to hear.
  5. But the answer God gives is the best answer.
B. If you ask God for a spouse, expect that He will give one
    to you.
   1. He or she may not look like what you want.
   2. On the surface, may not be shaped the way you
      envisioned.
   3. But I can guarantee that the person God chooses is the
      right fit for you.

WHEN GOD ANSWER YOUR PRAYER DON’T CHANGE ,BE THANKFUL
V:17-20. The servant hurried to meet her and said, "Please give me a little water from your jar."
18 "Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.

After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking." 20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels
A. When God answers your prayer the way you asked, don’t go
     Changing your standards.
1.   God does not always give you options.
2.   He is not MacDonald’s, you can’t have it your way.
3.   If you hesitate, it might be to late.
B. This woman had all the characteristic that the servant.
     wanted.
1.According to the text, she had looked, good was a
Virgin.
2.She was, helpful, obedient and respectful.
3.She was all that and a bag of chips.
4.God did’t give the servant any options.
5.There were other women to choose from,
But they didn’t meet the qualifications, he
Had in his heart.
6.When our eyes get bigger than our God, we got a
problem.
C. God rejoices when there is a marriage.
    1. God loves family.
    2. Abraham trusted God to lead his servant to the right
       woman for Isaac.
4.   I remember when my daughter gave me the news of her
Engagement.
a.    I thank God for the right husband my daughter.
b.   She was a tough woman to please, but it worked
out.
c.    It gives me joy to see my children marriages grow.
d.   I believe that there is joy in heaven when a man
And a woman join in marriage.
           e. When man finds a wife, he finds a good thing.

GIVE A TESTIMONY OF PRAISE FOR GOD’S BLESSINGS
V:26-27. Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord , 27 saying, "Praise be to the Lord , the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord  has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives."

A. Our first thought when prayers are answered , should be
    To give God praise.
   1. We ought to worship the Lord for who he is.
   2. We ought to worship the Lord because He drew us to
       Him to worship.
   3. We ought to praise the Lord for what He does for us.
B. We need to remember that it is only by God’s grace that
We have a relationship with Him/
   1. The servant was blessed to have Abraham as his master
       who love the Lord.
  2. The servant was blessed that Abraham taught him to love
      the Lord.
 3. Our relationship with Jesus, started because someone
     introduced us to Him.
 4. We owe God praise for our relationship with Him.

SHARE YOUR GOOD NEWS WITH OTHERS
V:28. The girl ran and told her mother's household about these things.
A. We ought to give our parents the good news of what
     Happening in our lives.
1.    Parents can give us a different perspective on our
plans.
2.    When God has done the selection, parents should
Support the sons daughters marriages.
3.    As parents we must role model what a marriage
Looks like for our children as they are growing
Up.
4.    We can give advice on marriage, but stay away from
controlling their marriages.
