This Week's Sunday School Lesson, "All Things In God's Time", Genesis 25:19-29, 8/19/2019

ALL THINGS IN GOD’S TIME

Gen 25:19-29

TAKE EVERY THING YO GOD IN PRAYER
19 This is the account of Abraham's son Isaac.
Abraham became the father of Isaac, 20 and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aramd and sister of Laban the Aramean.
21 Isaac prayed to the Lord  on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The Lord  answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. 22 The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, "Why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the Lord .
A. God’s plan for your life includes the good, the bad and the
    frustrating.
  1. Isaac and Rebekah had a fairy tail wedding.
  2. Rebekah married a wealthy man from a well to do family.
  3. Her marriage was planned and ordained by God.
  4. Isaac and Rebekah were both God fearing people.
  5. From the start, they had God on their side.
B. We hear of no complaints in the marriage until we find
They had been married 20 years and had not produced
    a child.
  1. It got to be frustrating to know the promises of God,
yet not see them fulfilled in your life.
  2. In that day, every man wanted a son to carry on the family
      name.
a.    In that day, every married woman wanted a child to prove
her worth.
b.   You can find this thought played out in the marriage of
Abraham and Sarah.
c.    You can also find this thought played out in the marriage
of Adam and Eve in God’s command to be fruitful and multiply.
C. This text tells us how problems in a marriage ought to be
     worked out.
1.A marriage is a partnership between God and the couple.
2.God is the author of marriage and ordains marriage.
3.Whenever you have a problem, you ought to take it
to God first.
D. Don’t forget to pray.
    1. Isaac prayed and Rebekah got pregnant.
    2. Why it took Isaac 20 year to pray for a child is
        beyond me.
3.Sometimes God delays promised blessings until we learn
to trust him.
E. God knows when we are ready for the next step in our lives.
    1. Before children come in a marriage, the couple need time
to grow in love and to learn to trust each other.
    2. When a couple lean on God, He will bring fruits into the
        marriage at the right time.
   F. Rebekah needed to learn to trust God before she got pregnant.
   1. Rebekah had a problem pregnancy .
   2. She would have twin boys.
   2. She went to God in prayer to get an answer to her problem.
   3. Some problems we face are there because of God’s design.
   4. Talking to God relieves our fears and give us peace in our
     situation.

GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOUR CHILDREN
23 The Lord  said to her,
"Two nations are in your womb,
 and two peoples from within you will be separated;
one people will be stronger than the other,
and the older will serve the younger."
24 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. 25 The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.e  26 After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so he was named Jacob.f Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.
 A. It is normal for boys to be competive .
   1. It is in their DNA.
   2. The babies had not been born, yet they were competive
       in the womb.
   3. Their personalities were set by God before they were
       born.
B. God is sovereign and we can’t assume we will ever fully
    understand His purposes.
  1. God does not follow our traditions nor does He adhere to
      our ways of doing things.
  2.  Esau would be born first, yet he would serve  Jacob
     a. That’s not how it was done according to man’s rules.
     c. The inheritance of the father goes to the elder son.
     b. God breaks all our rules to show us how foolish they can
         be.

C. Rebekah was comforted by God that both her sons would
     be successful.
     1. God also informs Rebekah that one son would be wiser
         than the other.
     2. God knows the end of us from the beginning.
     3. It is up to us to tune our children to the Word of God.

EACH CHILD IS DIFFERENT
27 The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was a quiet man, staying among the tents. 28 Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
A. There are things that happen in our lives that show us that God’s Word is true.
1. From Rebekah’s conversation With God, she knew that her
first born would not be the wisest son.
2. When Essau was born he was hairy.
    a. His name means red.
    b. He would be the start of the nation of Edom
3. Jacob was born with his hand on the heal of Esau’s foot.
   a. His name means supplanter , schemer or deceiver.
   b. While we may not understand the meaning of our lives,
God will reveal more to us over time.
B. We should not try to force our children in to a fixed mold
    That fits our desires.
  1. As we see with Esau and Jabob, their personalities were
fixed by God before they were born
  2. We each are uniquely made with different desires and
      qualities.
4.   God has suited us for the work He will call us to do.

        a. Prov 22:6-7
Train up a child in the way he should go: and
when he is old, he will not depart from it.
 b. It is our job to train our children to know God
and to be obedient to His command.
c.  A discipline mind leans not on himself but the
 Word of God.

           Prov 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord  with all your heart
     and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.a
