Bible Study Series: Marriage And Family, Lesson 2

THE PERFECT MARRIAGE

Among human beings, do you believe that there is a perfect marriage?

In my life time I have known a lot of good marriages. I know a lot of

marriages where the couple stayed together until one partner died.

I am not sure that any of these marriages were perfect.

I think all marriages have problems from time to time. The key is

how problems are resolved to stay together.

Unfortunately, many marriages end in divorce. Even among church folk.

That’s life, but there is way to improve the statistics.

Last week we discussed the fact that God created us for His glory and

commands us to put Him first in our lives. No marriage can move toward

perfection without God being first.

In this lesson, I want to look at the first marriage between Adam and Eve

and how God put them together.

MARRIAGE CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE

Gen 1:27-28

27 So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.

God’s design for marriage was to populate the earth with people who

looked like Him.  Not only was the first family purposed to look like

God, but be the image of God.

God gave the marriage everything to be successful.

GOD IS THE SOLUTION TO MARRIAGE

Gen 2:18

The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

The Hebrew word for alone is “bad’ God used a double negative to describe

Man without a partner:  not good and bad.

MAN INCOMPLETE WITHOUT A TREASURE

Watch this Ladies, you complete the man.  Without women, men are

in a bad situation.

Gen 2:18

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

The word help is the Hebrew word ezer which means one who helps, and a treasure

Man is not complete without the treasure of a woman

A treasure is something important. A treasure is something you

Protect.  A treasure is something of great value. A treasure is

Something you live for.

MAN NEEDS SOMEONE IN HIS FACE

The Hebrew word for meet is neged which means front of or before

your face.

God created a treasure for man to be in his face. Man is not complete

Without the treasure of a woman that is in his face.

According to the text, It is a bad situation when we don’t have someone connected to us to talk to and help make decisions.

Gen 2:22-24

Then the Lord  God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

"This is now bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called 'woman,

for she was taken out of man."

24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

God took the DNA of Adam and made Eve.

Adam’s treasure was made in the image and likeness of himself.

TOGETHERNESS THE KEY TO MARRIAGE

The word cleave is the Hebrew word, dabaq which means to abide fast

Pursue hard.   Man is commanded to pursue hard his treasure.

He is commanded to abide fast with his treasure.

The word flesh is the Hebrew word basar which means an extension of ,

or corresponding to.

Man is commanded to pursue hard the extension of himself,

which is his treasure.

The wife comes before family. Her opinions and ideas are more important than family.  The man and his wife work together and if necessary over

looks outside influence.

MARRIAGE MADE WITHOUT SECERTS

Gen 2:25

The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

There should be no secrets between man and his wife.

In a perfect marriage there are no secrets.

We are not to hide stuff from each other.

When we are troubled it should be discussed with our treasure,

Until sin entered their hearts, they were innocent.

When they disobeyed God’s command, the first couple was kicked out

Of the garden of Eden and had to start over in the harsh realities of

life.

The perfect marriage became imperfect. We all are a result of the

first marriage becoming imperfect. We cannot change the past,

But we can affect the future.

THE ONE PERFECT MARRIAGE

There is one perfect marriage. It is the one you and

I establish with Jesus Christ.  It is the role model for all

marriages.

It not prefect because of us, but it is perfect because of Jesus Christ the

bridegroom. When we accepted Christ we became His bride.

Let’s examine the marriage between Christ and us, the church.

MARRIAGE MADE BEAUTIFUL IN CHRIST

Isa 61:10-11

I delight greatly in the Lord ;

my soul rejoices in my God.

For he has clothed me with garments of salvation

and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness,

as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up

and a garden causes seeds to grow,

so the Sovereign Lord  will make righteousness and praise

spring up before all nations.

MADE PERFECT IN CHRIST

Heb 12:23-24

You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

1 John 4:17

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

MADE PREFECT IN CHRIST LOVE

Rom 5:8

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Eph 5:1-2

5 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

MARRIAGE MADE PERFECT BECAUSE OF FORGIVENESS

Rom 3:21-25

21 But now  righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

MARRIAGE MADE PERFECT BECAUSE OF GRACE

 Eph 2:5-6

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

MARRIAGE MADE PERFECT IN A NEW CREATION

2 Cor 5:17-18

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

MARRIAGE  MADE PERFECT BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 16:7-11

7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

MARRIAGE  MADE PERFECT THROUGH WEAKNESS

2 Cor 12:9-10

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

MARRIAGE IS MADE PERFECT IN TRUST

Prov 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

MARRIAGE TO JESUS IS PERMENANT

Eph 4:30

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
