This Week's Sunday School Lesson, "Scare Tactics", Judges 7:9-21, 6/21/2020

SCARE TACTICS

Judges 7:9-21

LISTEN TO THE WORD OF COD
V:9.  During that night the Lord said to Gideon, "Get up, go down against the camp because I am going to give it into your hands. 10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah 11 and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp." So he and Purah his servant went down to the outposts of the camp. 12 The Midianites, the Amalekites, and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.
A. God had allowed Gideon to select only 300 men for the battle against
     an enemy of thousands.
    1. He was assured that the victory was his.
    2. For confirmation, God gave Gideon a sign;
listen to the men in the camp of the enemy.
B. It is important to follow God’s directions.
    1. It takes courage to follow God’s directions especially
when we are going into dangerous situations.
    2. We must remember, that if God directs you to do something,
He will protect you through it.

FOLLOW GOD DIRECTIONS
V:13.  Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. "I had a dream," he was saying. "A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed."
14 His friend responded, "This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands."
15 When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped God. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, "Get up! The Lord  has given the Midianite camp into your hands."
A. Gideon heard the confirmation of victory through the mouths of
      the enemy.
     1. When your enemy knows you trust God, they can become fearful of
        you.
    2. With the current nationwide protest, members of the US Congress,
our elected officials,  have become fearful of the citizens acting in unity,
    3. They are beginning to act legislation that addresses the concerns
         of the people.
     4. The problems were existed and were well known before the protest
          started.
B. Worship God before you go into battle.
     1. Start your day out worshipping God.
     2. The moment we wake in the morning, Satan is on the warpath.
     3. With God on your side, victory is assured.
     4. Gideon left the enemy camp confident that Israel wins the battle.

ACT ACCORDING TO GOD’S PLAN
V:16.  Dividing the three hundred men into three companies, he placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside.
17 "Watch me," he told them. "Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do. 18 When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, 'For the Lord  and for Gideon.'"
A. God has a plan for your success.
     1. Once you have confirmation from God, move immediately.
     2. When God has given you the upper hand, keep the pressure on.
     3. When the enemy is fearful, don’t give them time to regain their
         confidence.
B. Leaders must give clear directions.
    1. Let God guide your directions
    2. God has a way of using simple things to increase the confusion
        of the enemy
    3. Trumpets, empty jars, and torches don’t appear to be much
         against a well-trained army.
But in the hands of God, that is all that is needed,
     4. Music and shouting for joy are tools God uses to bring
         victory into our lives.
     5. There is power in worshipping God as a community.
     6. It is what we say in the name of the Lord that bring
         victory.

WALK-IN FAITH
19 Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after they had changed the guard. They blew their trumpets and broke the jars that were in their hands. 20 The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, "A sword for the Lord  and for Gideon!" 21 While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled.
A, When we organize as God directs us, a few people become an unbeatable
      army.
    1. Unexpected sounds and lights in the middle of the night can terrorize
        your enemies.
     2. Notice God worked on the emotions of the enemy to disrupt their
unity and throw them into confusion.
B. The God we serve knows the hearts and minds of everyone including
     your enemies.
    1. They may seem strong, but God knows their weaknesses.
    2. God knows how to make your enemies as weak as flies.
    3. You never know how God is going to solve your problems,
but He will do it in His own way and in His time.
    4.  God gives us a recipe for handling our problems.
        a. Prayer
        b. Repentance of our sins
        c. Listening to His Word
        d. Faith in His directions.
        c. Acting according to His Word.
