This Week's Sunday School Lesson, "You Cannot Fight God And Win", Psalms 2;1-12. 4/19/2020

YOU CANNOT FIGHT GOD AND WIN

Psalms  2:1-12

OUR VICTORY IS IN CHRIST
V:1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together against the Lord
   and against his Anointed One.
3 "Let us break their chains," they say,
   "and throw off their fetters."
A. The Psalm writer pictures Satan on the move to destroy
     the Church.
    1. He describes the actions of Satan as a war against God.
    2. His motive is to kill Jesus, the Anointed One.

    3. If Satan could destroy the love of Jesus in the hearts and minds
of believers, his job would be a success.

    4. Satan came to still, kill and to destroy.
B. The scene appears to be the evil Gentile nations surrounding the
nation of Israel, taking a stand against the righteousness of God.
    1. Those who pride themselves in their on ability, over estimate
their strength when opposing the Almighty God.
    2. No one can win a battle against God.
    3. When we stand with God, no one can stand against us.
    4. As we struggle in this coronaviris, there is  victory in trusting

        in God.

GOD HATE THE PROUD
V:4.  The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them. 5 Then he rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6. "I have installed my King on
   Zion, my holy hill."
A. The Father in heaven looks down at those who
fight against His righteousness and laughs at their
     foolishness.
  1. You can anger the Lord by not trusting in His authority
      over your struggles.
   2.  As we look at our situation today, the world is terrified
       over this coronavirus.
   3. The world economy has been paralyzed by this unseen
        killer.
    4. No amount of money, guns or armies have been able to

stop its spread across the world.
   4. The virus is the work of the devil, but I believe that the
spread of the virus is the work of The Lord.
   5. This virus is no respecter of person.
       a. The rich, the power, the well connected, the poor
and hard working unpaid workers are all affected.
       b. The pride and the arrogance of the world has been
ripped away, with more folk calling on the Lord
            for help.
   6. It is the King Of Kings, the Lord of Lords who sits at
the right hand of God that is in charge.
   7. The catchphrase of 2020 is "We are all in this together".

   8. In 2019, it was everyone for him/herself.
   9. In 2020, it lets be clean, in 2019 it was doing what you want

       to  do.
10 In 2019, it was poor and the average worker who financed
the deep pockets of the rich.
       a. In 2020, it is the world’s rich trying to find a way to support
the poor and average man and woman.
  11. God has a way to bring us to our knees and making us

        see what is important.
  12. In 2020, God has shut the world down and made us focus
on His first divinely appointed institution, FAMILY.
      a. God has made us realize that every person and every job
          is important.
      b. One way or the other, we are all connected together.
      c. Doctors and nurses, farmers and grocery store workers,
truck drivers and street sweepers, sanitation workers.
And janitors, teachers and daycare workers,

and yes politicians all the way up to the
President is all a necessary and important part of our
          lives.
13. We have failed to love the Lord with all our hearts minds and
      souls.
       a. We have failed to love our neighbors as ourselves

       b. Let's take this time to evaluate ourselves and see

where we may improve to please God.

 JESUS IS JN CHARGE
V:7,  I will proclaim the decree of the Lord :
He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father.
8  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance,
ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will rule them with an iron scepter
you will dash them to pieces like pottery."
A. After the resurrection of Jesus, He was given all
    power over heaven and earth.
1, He is seated at the right hand of the Father with the
authority to make intercessions for you and me.
   2. Even though Jesus is one with the Father, He does not
think it robbery to be Son.

         Phil 2:6
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with
          God:
   3. Jesus has the power to reconcile nations together and
destroy those who refuse to honor Him and follow
        His commands.
B.  I believe the Jesus we serve, is using this virus to destroy
      our pride and prejudice.

     1. Maybe this virus will draw us together as a family,
as a nation, and as a world.

     2. Consider Genesis Chapter 11, When the people of the
world decided to disobey God’s command to repopulate
         the earth.

         a. They got tired of moving according to God’s plan
and decided to build a tower to the heavens.
         b. God looked down and said these people are of one mind

and there is nothing that they cannot accomplish.
         c. So God confused their languages so they could not
             communicate with each other.

   3. Maybe God put a stop to our selfish desires to point us
in a new direction of following His plan for our lives.

GET RIGHT BEFORE GOD
V:10. Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.
A. Consider the warning God gave the nations surrounding Israel.
    1. This is the same warning God is giving us especially the Church.
    2. Serve the Lord with fear and Joy
    3. When we serve the Lord, we are under His protection.
    4. When we abide in the Lord, He abides in us.
B. The word fear is the Hebrew word Yirah which means reverence.
    1. We are commanded to serve the Lord in reverence.
    2. We are commanded to rejoice in the Lord.
       a. This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be
           glad in it.   Psalms 118:24
       b. The word rejoice is from the Hebrew word giyl (gheel)
which means to spin around with excitement.

The word glad is the Hebrew word samach which means
            cheer up.
“Put the two together; spin around with excitement and
            cheer up.”
        c. This is the time when you have to make yourself happy.
       3. We are commanded to tremble in the presence of the Lord.

ESTABLISH A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS
V:12.  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
 A. In ancient times, the kiss was the way to show respect to one
      of superior rank,
     1. We are commanded to express our allegiance to Jesus our
          Lord and Savior.
     2. Those who accept Christ as Lord are safe in Him.
 B. Those who reject Christ will face eternal damnation.
     1. We are blessed to be given the opportunity to be part of
          body of Christ.
     2. It is a blessing to be given the mindset to know Jesus.

          John 6:44
Jesus answered. 44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who
sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

      3. It is good to be in the number that the Father draws to Jesus.
      4. God is commanding us to establish a relationship with Jesus
so we can have eternal life with Him.

Amen
