Galatians 3:26-4:7
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FATHER
V:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
A. The key to a relationship with God the Father is faith in Jesus.
1. The father of faith is Abraham. He believed God and was counted righteous
2. The way to the Father is to believe that Jesus death on the cross atoned
for your sins.
B. God has become our Father and Jesus our big brother.
1. God considers all believers one with Jesus.
2. It is the spiritual baptism that washes us clean before God.
C. To put on Christ is to take on His spirit.
1. To put Christ is to take on His interest
2. To put on Christ is to copy His Character.
3. To put on Christ is to copy His manners.
4. To put on Christ is to pursue the will of the Father.
5. To put on Christ is proclaim His conversation.
6. To put on Christ is receive His Joy.
7. To put on Christ is to bathe in His peace.
8. To put on Christ is to walk after His example.
WE ARE ALL EQUAL IN CHRIST
V:28-29. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.
A. God is no respecter of person.
1. In Christ, we are all one.
2. No one can claim to be more than or better than anyone else.
3. This agrees with Jesus response to His disciples when ask if a woman had
seven husbands while she lived, whose wife would she be in heaven?
Mark 12:24-26
24 Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or
the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in
marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
GOD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR US
B. Not only does the Father take ownership of all believers, but Christ take ownership
of all believers.
1. We see people by race or color, We see people by status or position. But God
is color blind. God sees us all the same.
2. The promise God made to Abraham was that he would be the father of many
nations.
3. Since Christ is the promise seed of Abraham and we have taken on Christ,
then we (believers in Christ) are all the seed of Abraham.
4. The blessing God promised to Abraham was eternal life.
5. Therefore through faith in Jesus Christ, we have eternal life.
WE ARE GOD’S ELECT
V.4:1-3 Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything, 2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father. 3 So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.
A. There are two classes of peoples in the world. Those who are children of God and
then there are those who are slaves of the devil.
1. When we were young, we were all under the guardianship of our parents.
2. In our immaturity, we were under the guidance and directions of our
guardians, but slaves (non elect), and free people (the elect) .
3. Every believer was predestined before the foundation of the earth to be in
Christ
We were born in the world until the time set to be called out of the world by the
Father.
4. Until being called out of the world, God’s elect was no different than the
none elect.
B. God elect is always, God’s elect regardless of maturity level.
1. God allows us to have experiences in our immaturity, that is while in the
world so that we experience sin and the consequences of sin.
2. All of our experiences in the world in retrospect, helps us understand
the work of God in our lives.
3 So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things
of the world.
WE ARE ON GOD’S TIME
V:4-5 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born
of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under
the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
A. God has a plan for our redemption from sin.
1. God’s plan of redemption was activated in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve
disobeyed God’s command.
2. Through His promises and 42 generations of time, He brought forth His son
to be our redeemer.
B. In the Garden of Eden, God promised a woman seed to be victorious over Satan.
1. Jesus born by the Holy Spirit took on Human flesh in the body of Mary.
2. Jesus was born under the Law to redeem Jews under the Law.
3. Also because we are son’s through faith in the promise seed (Jesus),
we have been adopted as sons.
SONS OF GOD BY FAITH
V:6-7. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
A. We have in this verse the God head working in unity. God the Father, God the Son
and God the Holy Spirit.
1.The person of The Father, sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins.
2. The person of the Father sent the Spirit of the Son into our heart.
B. Faith come by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
1. Without hearing there will be no faith.
2. It is the Spirit of the Son in us that receives the faith.
3. To each is given a measure of faith.
4. It is God the Father who determines when the measure of faith is given.
5. We can only become son after the measure of faith is given.
C. To those who are not God’s elect, the Spirit of His Son is never given.
1. They never mature and see the Word of God as foolishness.
2. The world without God is on a downhill spiral.
