Bible Study Series: The Directions Of The Sheperd Psalms 23:2

 THE DIRECTIONS OF THE SHEPHERD

PSALMS 23:2

Verse 1 of Psalms 23, David said the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not

want. I hope you have decided to make Jesus the shepherd of your life.

I hope you are satisfied with Jesus as your shepherd. I hope that you

are in the mindset to not question Jesus' shepherd qualifications.

I hope that you have decided to be a sheep of Jesus. I hope you have

decided to submit yourself to His shepherd directions.

Thirdly, I hope you have decided to trust the shepherd with all your needs.

I hope you have decided that if you need it, the shepherd will provide it.

I hope you have decided to wait on the shepherd,

Psalms 23:2

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

The sheep hears the shepherds voice and responds to him. That means the

the shepherd talks to the sheep constantly. The sheep willingly listens to the

shepherd.

The Shepherd develops a relationship with with the sheep. When lambs

are born the shepherd is there to nurture and aid the sheep.

The shepherd does not drive the sheep, he gently leads the sheep. The sheep

trust the shepherd because he provides for them.

The sheep will not lay down when they are hungry. The shepherd has led them to a place where they have eaten all the grass they desire to be satisfied.

The Shepherd causes the sheep to lay down by making sure that are well fed.m

God has installed in us a clock that we naturally fall a sleep. The sleep He

provides is rest from activities, relaxation from the stress of the day

The sheep of Jesus has no lack of spiritual blessing. Food for the soul is

the word of God. We can lay down and rest being satisfied with His

promises, the with Word in mind we can reflect on His goodness

Our daily food and water are provided by Jesus our shepherd. ;

When the sheep lay down, the shepherd is their to guard and protect

them from the danger of predictors, lion, bears, etc . In the open field

the shepherd is their 24 hour protector. Just as Jesus is for us.

In the open field of the world, the danger comes from lies and deceptions

and those who would take what we have by force. God gives us wisdom

to see the danger before us and protect us.

Not only has the shepherd provided grass to eat but also water to

drink. Note the water is a gentle stream, not a rough flowing water.

Sheep are frightened by rough waters.

Sheep cannot swim. In rough water, their wool would get wet and they

would drown. If necessary the shepherd would dam up a stream so

the sheep could drink.

The spiritual water for the Christian is the Holy Spirit who strengthens us

on the inside and gives us incite to stay close to the shepherd. The Holy

Spirit reminds us of the shepherds voice. Since we know the shepherd’s

voice we will not follow false doctrine The Holy Spirit does not force itself

upon us, but gently reminds of the love and affection of the shepherd.
