ART OF WORSHIP IN OBEDIENCE
Leviticus 16:11-19
PROCEDURE
FOR MAKING ATONEMENT FOR PRIEST, HIS FAMILY, AND ISRAEL
This was the preparation for the Passover which was
instituted the night the
Death angel passed over the houses of Israel marked with
lamb’s blood. All
The firstborn of Egypt were killed which was the final straw
that caused the
Pharoah of Egypt to free Israel from slavery.
Aaron and his sons were anointed to make sacrifices to the Lord.
Aaron was a type of Christ, Our high
priest. I suggest that his attending priest, his sons
Were a type of the position of our
pastors.
Leviticus 8:30
30 Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the
blood from the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments and on his
sons and their garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments and his sons
and their garments.
God spoke to Moses, who gave instructions to Aaron and
prepared him for the priesthood.
Moses gave Aaron and his sons God’s very detailed and
specific instructions for offering sacrifices
For the atonement of his sins, the sins of his household, and
all of Israel.
God set the example for total obedience to His commands
concerning the offering
Made by the priest. Two of Aaron’s sons died by fire for
their disobedience:
Leviticus 10:1-5
Aaron's sons Nadab
and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them, and added incense; and they
offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. 2 So fire
came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before
the Lord. 3 Moses then said to Aaron, "This is what the Lord spoke of when
he said:
"'Among those who approach me
I will show myself holy;
in the sight of all the people
I will be honored.'"
Aaron remained silent.
4 Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron's uncle
Uzziel, and said to them, "Come here; carry your cousins outside the camp,
away from the front of the sanctuary." 5 So they came and carried them,
still in their tunics, outside the camp, as Moses ordered.
Below is
the order of the offering sacrifices that were made by the High Priest during
the Passover Celebration
The High
Priest could only enter the Holy Of Holies, behind the veil
In the
Tabernacle once a year during the Passover. To enter behind
The veil (Curtain)
exposed the high priest to the presence of the Shekinah
glory of God in the cloud over the mercy seat
of the ark. To make an
Unauthorized
entry behind the veil would be immediate death. The
Unauthorized
entry included not bathing, not wearing the proper
Clothing, and
an impure heart.

His household

Jesus sacrifices Himself for us. The High Priest was the mediator between sinful
Disobedient Israel and God the
Father. Jesus is our mediator.
Aaron entered the Holy of Holies behind the
veil a third time (verses 16-17)
To make atonement
for the Holy of Holies, the Tent Of Meeting, and the altar.
According to
the Bible Knowledge Commentary, God’s dwelling place needed to be cleansed
Because of
the uncleanness and rebellion of the Israelites.
No one was allowed
to enter the Tent Of The Meeting until
Aaron came out
After the
purification and the atonement of sins for Aaron and his household,
The people
of Israel, and the sanctuary the scapegoat was released to the
Wilderness.
According to
the Bible Knowledge Commentary;
Leviticus
16:20-22
It is significant that the high priest
finished making atonement for the most holy place, the Tent of Meeting, and the
altar before he brought forward the live goat on whose head he was to lay both
hands... and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites
- all their sins - and put them symbolically on the goat's head. Though some
scholars maintain that al-ready-atoned and already-forgiven sins were placed on
the goat's head, it is clearer to understand that the effect of the people's
sin on the sanctuary had been cleansed by the blood-sprinkling ceremony but
that sending the live goat away into the desert (as a part of the sin offering)
made atonement in the sense of cleansing the Israelites from their sins.
