GENESIS 1:20- 31

COMMUNITY IS A BLESSING FROM GOD

Genesis 1:20-2:1

 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening, and there was morning — the fifth day. 

24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 

27 So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them. 

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." 

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground — everything that has the breath of life in it — I give every green plant for food." And it was so. 

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day. 

THE COMMUNITY

In days five and six God created a community of creatures. In the air.

On land, and in the waters.  

The God we serve planned steps for you and me to live a life of

Worship, filled with His joy. In day one of the creative process, God introduced us to light of the World. First,  He created the

Universe in darkness covered with water than brought it out darkness

To the true everlasting Light. He made a place for us to live in an 

environment suitable for life. God filled the place with water and vegetation for man and all creatures to eat.

On day five of God’s creative process, He filled the place of man with

Animals in the sky, on land, and in the waters. God is a universal provider. He made provisions for all times. for all living creatures.

It is estimated that there are 10,000 species of birds in countries around the world.  It is estimated that there are over 2,000,000 species of animals on land. It is estimated that there are 25,000

Species of fish in waters around the earth. Only a God can speak

In existence the abundance of creatures all over the Earth. Each

Species were given the ability to reproduce themselves. Provisions

for each species is provided for their existence. God knows and provides for the diet of each species.  

BLESSED TO MULTIPLY

God blessed the animals He created and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply.  We would do well to remember that life is a gift 

Of God. It was not learned by education but given the ability to learn.

Animals were given the ability to survive in the environment they were

Placed. 

Animals were placed in a community with others of their kind. Dogs

Don’t produce cats and cats don’t produce birds. Elephants don’t

produce crocodiles and crocodiles don’t produce fish. Only an all

Knowing God could give animals the instinct to reproduce their own

Kind 

Life in each animal is God’s design and varies in their capabilities and

Purpose. The animals were created in harmony and for the joy of man

MAN THE CROWN OF GOD’S CREATION

Day 6 is the crown of God’s creation. Days one through 5 set the stage for the making of man.

Genesis 1:26-2:1

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." 

God said let us. Who is the us?  The phrase “let us make is one Hebrew Word, asah.  Some theologians believe it is the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.  In previous verses God revealed, Light the Luiminous meaning the Son, and the Spirit hovering over the waters.

WE ARE REPRESENTATIVES OF GOD

God made man in His own image and likeness.  No other creature or substance was made in the image of God.  The word made in the verse means to appoint. God appointed man as a representative of Himself to take charge of His creation. You and I were made to be in charge of the earth resources. The resources were not made to be

In charge of you.

Man is special and extraordinary in his formation and soul.  The office of man is set higher than any creature on earth. Man was made intellectual and formed after the nature and perfection of God.

God is spirit, therefore  Man was given a spirit to communicate with God. The Fountain of our spirit is God. God is unlimited in His resources, knowledge, wisdom and power. God appointed man to be stewards Of His creation with continuous access to Him.

John 4:24

 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 

We are to resemble God in speech, thought and, in action with love and compassion. We were designed to use the knowledge and wisdom of God to the benefit of others.

The Hebrew word for the verb created is bara. God is the only subject for this word. Bara means to be fat, be sound, and be healthy. We were made with the abundance of God, with the responsibility to take care of God’s earthly creatures.  We are fat with resources.

God created man and woman equally and according to this verse at the same time. In Adam was the woman to be formed later. God intended for Adam to have companionship thus the idea of community. 

Only God can create something by His spoken word. There is unlimited power in the Word of God. You and I have access to that power. God made you fat with His abundance. 

Genesis 1:28

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." 

The blessings of God is the cause of blessings in our lives. No one can bless us in the manner of God. Like the animals, we are commanded to be fruitful and multiply. Unlike the animals, we were given the command to rule over all living creatures.

Who in their right mind would give you control of all the created, and worked hard for without hesitation? God put His trust in man. We should be quick to put our trust in God.

God gave us family and then charged us to make more families. Today, Many men and women choose not to have children or wait until later in their careers. Ignoring God’s commands can complicate 

The childbearing process. A couple who ignore God’s command to 

produce children puts a limit on their blessing. 

Psalms 127:3-5

3 Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. 

4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. 

5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

What would have happened if Adam and Eve had ignored God’s

Command to be fruitful and multiply?

Stewardship over God’s creatures requires a family effort. No man is an island, and families are his helpers. In the creation story, God emphasizes that we need and depend on each other. It was Noah

And his family that build the Ark to survive the flood that destroyed

All mankind and animals except that which entered Ark. God put His

Trust in Noah to restart family and community.

The first thing God did for man was to give him His law challenging

Him to be fearful and obedient. The second thing God did was give

Man a job. The third thing God did for Adam was to put Eve at his side

God made man sovereign over all life in His creation. Man has the knowledge and the wisdom of the creator. Made in the image of God, man has the capability to make right decisions according to the will of God.  Man has the creative ability to devise situations to care for animals In his charge 

    Man has reason to apprehend good and evil

    Man has speech to make certain sensible acts

    Man has the power to act according to the will of God

    Man can choose to be obedient

    Man can choose to love 

    Man has the knowledge of God to live a righteous life.

GOD’S ABUNDANT PROVISIONS

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground — everything that has the breath of life in it — I give every green plant for food." And it was so. 

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day. 

No one can provide for you like the Lord. No one knows your needs,

Wants and desires like the Lord. God is so protective of you that

He has made promises that covers every need you have.

According to Everet R. Storms’ comprehensive study, there are 7,487 promises made by God to man. These promises cover a wide range of topics, including provision, protection, guidance, and redemption. They offer hope and assurance to believers, emphasizing God’s faithfulness and love.

Notice, it is God who proclaims that you are good. You don’t need the validation of anyone to say you are good.  Your goodness does not depend on your work, position or family.  You are good because

God says you are good. It is up to you to believe what God said about

You.  Others think it is their job to point out your faults and judge you

Unworthy.  If God didn’t do it, why listen to others?

This reminds me of a commercial where an Emu packed his bag and left the farm to pursue his dream.   The owner yelled as the Emu

was leaving telling him he would never be in an insurance commercial. The farmer added “you just a flightless bird”

Five years later the farmer was looking at TV and saw the bird in the

Commercial selling insurance. Here is  what I like about the Emu;

           He had a dream

           He had the sense to leave a toxic situation.

           He didn’t listen to the negative evaluation of others

           He was determined to succeed.  

You and I don’t travel alone. We have God on our side.

We can trust the God we serve to provide a way out

God has a vested interest in our success

God made abundant provisions for you, the crown of His creation.

You and I were made to be perfect and lacking nothing.

James 1:2-5

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5

You and I were made to experience trouble. We made strong in the Lord to develop faith in Him.

SUMMARY

GENESIS 1:14-19

Genesis 1:14-20

 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights — the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning — the fourth day. 

When we look at work God did in creation, you will understand that

We serve an amazing, powerful loving God. When we look at what we

Know about the solar system we see an incredibly well created universe that no man, not even scientists can completely

Understand. 

God spoke and what little we know came into existence. The creation 

Work on day four concentrates on the sun, moon, and stars. However, the entire solar system was probably created and set in motion. The 

The farthest planet from the sun is 2.8 million miles. The known named planets are in an orbit with a diameter of over 5.6 million miles.

And scientists have determined that the universe is much larger than that. 

 Psalms 103:12 says that our sins have been separated from us as far as the East is from the West. We have no idea what that distance is. What it say is in the business of giving us. He wants us restored to the same level of innocence that existed in the Garden of Eden before

Adam and Eve sinned. He is so gracious that He in the person of the

Son stepped out of heaven, became man to die and become sin for

us.

The sun is in the center of the universe and is basically a ball of fire. It is a dense gas mainly hydrogen and Helium called Plasma. Scientists have determined that sun rotates in place and is call differential

Rotation according to NASA. The surface temperature is estimated

To be 10000 degrees and the core temperature is estimated to be

27 million degrees. Only a mighty God can set  a ball of burning fire

In place and maintain it forever. In Exodus 3 God introduced Himself

To Moses by an angel in a burning bush that was not consumed. We

May be able to visualize a bush on fire like the logs in a gas fire place.

But to understand the magnitude of the sun’s heat and eternal longevity is beyond my comprehension.  This also ought to remind

Us of the fiery Hell planned for unbelievers.

In John 1:3 states that nothing was created without Jesus, the Son

Of God. In Genesis 1:1, the Word for light is OWR which is illumination, meaning the Son of God. In verse 14 the word for light is MEORAH, which is a luminous body meaning the sun.

Every living thing depends on the sun. The spiritual life of every believer is derived from the SON. The solar system reminds us that

God we serve is bigger than anything we can imagine and certainly 

Bigger than any problem we have.  The question is How big is your God?

God created the heavens and the earth. I can only assume that the heavens were created first. The Apostle Paul said he was called up to the third heaven. Some theologians suggest that first heaven is the

Sky we see. The second heaven is the realm of the  stars and the moon and the third heaven is the throne of God.

In creating the sun, moon and stars God created human time. In the

First three days, the light was luminousness, meaning the SON.  The

Luminous of God brings knowledge and wisdom which is the Word

Of God. 

It was on the fourth day that God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, the Meorahs. Human time includes hours, days, months,  years, and seasons. The solar system was put in full rotation. As far

As we know, the earth is the only planet that is suitable for life.

It was placed in an orbit by God at the right distance from the sun.

The distance from the Earth to the sun is 93 million miles

If the Earth was too close to the sun we would burn up. If the Earth was too far away from the sun we would freeze to death. God loves us so much that He gave us the sun for physical life and the Son for eternal life.

The earth rotates on it’s axis 24 hours a day which gives day and

Night. The Earth rotates in an obit  365 days around the sun which gives the seasons of the year.

The earth was created for man as a place to live and a place of Worship. What God made, He made good. And for the good of mankind.  In the Old Testament, God gave the Israel times and

Seasons to worship Him.

Is a reminder of the Sovereign God, His love, and desire to fellowship with us. 

There is a Spiritual Symbolism of Light

• IN VERSE 1 THE WORD FOR LIGHT IS OWR    ILLUMINATION   THE SON

• IN VERSE14 THE WORD FOR LIGHT IS MEORAH   LUMINOUS BODY   THE SUN

• JOHN 9:5  JESUS IS THE LIGHT, THE WORD IS PHOS    LUMINOUSNESS THE SON. WITHOUT HIM WE EXIT IN DARKNESS

• WITHOUT THE SUN, THERE WOULD BE NO LIFE

• GOD CREATED FIRE,  THE SUN IS A BALL OF FIRE THAT IS NOT CONSUMED. 

THIS IS A REMINDER THAT UNREPENTANT SINS WILL CAST US INTO THE FIERY HELL

• GOD CREATES THE HEAVENS. OUR HOPE IS A HEAVENLY HOME WITH JESUS

• GOD CREATES HUMAN TIME; HOURS, DAYS, MONTHS, SEASONS, AND YEARS.

• GOD’S TIME AND MAN’S TIME ARE DIFFERENT

• GOD SETS THE PLANETS IN THEIR ORBITS AROUND SUN

THE SON IS CENTER OF OUR SPIRITUAL UNIVERSE

• GOD SET THE EARTH AT THE RIGHT DISTANCE FROM THE SUN

• IF IT WAS TO CLOSE IT WOULD BE TO HOT FOR LIFE

• IF IT WAS TO FAR AWAY IT WOULD BE TO COLD FOR LIFE

• AS FAR AS WE KNOW, NO OTHER PLANET HAS LIFE

• MAN’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SON CONTROLS HIS LIFE

Everything God created in days one through four was to prepare

The universe for man to be made in His image. Man was made to

Worship and glorify the Lord. God left nothing to chance in His

Creation of the universe so man would be complete and lacking nothing   John 17:23 

God Created The Atmosphere Genesis 1:6-13

6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning — the second day. 

9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. 

11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. FATHER OF CHEMISTRY

God is the Father of chemistry. He is a construction engineer. He is an architect.  He is so complete that nothing Is left to chance.

In Verses 6-8 God created an expanse or firmament between the heavens and the earth which was mixed together at creation on

The first day.  

God separated the sky(heavens) from the surface of the waters.

In other words God created a space between the sky  and the waters

How was that done? No one knows.  God introduces us to gravitational forces.   g=9.76 m/s2  which is net acceleration on objects

When a car moves there is a force applied that causes it to move.

God is the all-powerful force that moved heaven and earth. We cannot imagine the force that it took move the earth down to separate the

Water covered earth to create a sky.

GOD CREATED THE AIR WE BREATHE

On day two God created an atmosphere suitable for life which includes the air we breathe. 

It is important for us to consider the importance of the air that surrounds us. Its chemical makeup is mixed by God to allow

Man, all life in plants, and animals to exist. 

On the second day, God created an expanse between the upper 

Atmosphere and the ground. The expanse is the space between the 

Ground and the sky. Initially created in water. He separated the

Waters of the sky from the waters of the earth, creating the

Air and the atmosphere that surrounds us

The composition of the atmosphere: -- But the atmosphere with which the Creator has surrounded the earth is wonderful also in its composition. The two elements of which it chiefly consists -- oxygen and nitrogen -- are mixed in definite proportions in parts. If this proportion were but slightly altered, as nitrogen destroys life and extinguishes flame, the result of any perceptible increase of it would be that fires would lose their strength and lamps their brightness, plants would wither, and man, with the whole animal kingdom, would perform their functions with difficulty and pain. Or if the quantity of nitrogen were much diminished, and the oxygen increased, the opposite effect would be produced. The least spark would set anything combustible in a flame; candles and lamps would burn with the most brilliant blaze for a moment, but would be quickly consumed. If a house caught fire, the whole city would be burnt down. The animal fluids would circulate with the greatest rapidity, brain fever would soon set in, and the lunatic asylums would be filled. A day is coming when "the elements shall melt with fervent heat." God has but to subtract the nitrogen from the air, and the whole world would instantly take fire; such is the activity and energy of the oxygen when left uncontrolled.

The air we breathe was designed by God for the perfect consumption

By man and all living creatures and plants, and trees. 

Air is 21 percent oxygen and 78 percent nitrogen and a very small

Percent of carbonic acid. This mixture is perfect for life on earth

As stated by the Biblical Illustrator commentary, if the mixture is

Altered, there would be significant problems.

The chemicals molecules  known to us and identified during creation are water H2O, Nitrogen, Oxygen O2, Carbonic Acid H2CO3.  All are required for everything that lives. 

GOD CREATED ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE

Not only is the mixture of oxygen and nitrogen important but the

The pressure that exists on earth is important.  The atmospheric pressure, at sea level is about 14.696 psi per square in of surface

Area. Only an all-powerful God can create pressure.

Consider what Science ABC says;

Equilibrium: The Great Equalizer

The air around us exerts pressure on our entire body. However, what is fascinating is that the same amount of pressure is exerted back onto the air molecules by the inside of our bodies, creating a state of equilibrium. 

Simply put, the human body has evolved over time in the presence of air and in accordance with the pressure exerted upon it. If the human body were an empty shell, it would have popped like a tin can under our atmospheric pressure. But that doesn’t happen. 

With Barometric pressure, God gave some the ability to predict weather changes. People suffering from arthritis, migranes and sinuses.

For suffers with arthritis an increase in pressure causes muscles to

Contract leading to pain

For sufferers of Migrains. Low barometric causes headaches

For Suffers of sinuses an increase in barometric pressure causes mucus to thicken blocking air

Barometric pressure controls the weather and pain in our bodies

The atmosphere we live in was designed by God to do many

Things that are beneficial to us.

The Atmosphere protects us from the radiation of the sun. In the upper atmosphere is an ozone layer O3 

The atmosphere contains moisture for rain which is collected

In clouds.

The atmosphere controls the heat. It insulates the Earth by trapping

Heat and transporting heat from warmer to cooler areas.  

The radiated heat causes the evaporation of moister, equalizes the climate, producing winds forming clouds and diffusing light 

Every living thing consumes air, but God has a way of controlling 

it so it is never depleted.  No matter what we admit into the air,  it

Never changes the mixture of the air over the earth so it is unsuitable for consumption 

Air is the receptacle and vehicle of LIght 

The Atmosphere was made for lungs were made for the atmosphere

The atmosphere controls sound

Speech is only possible because of the atmosphere. The larynx,

The tongue, the mouth, and the lips have the skill to form air into

Words.

GOD CREATED A PLACE FOR MAN TO EXIST

After God created an environment suitable for life, He design a

Place suitable for life and food suitable for consumption to support life.

9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. 

11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning — the third day. 

The Habitation for Mankind 

Dry ground is necessary for all plant life. He planted the ground with

Trees and plants equipped with seeds for continual reproduction.

The entire earth was made fertile for growth. The land was dry, but

We must assume there was moisture in the ground to water the plants

That God placed to grow and multiply.

The Water was gatherted in a place called sea. The Hebrew word for

Sea is yam which means a large body of roaring waters. The water was moving, not stagnant flowing throughout the earth. 

Jesus is the water of life ( John 7:38-39)      Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:35). Jesus is everywhere all the time providing provisions for

Life. 

It has been determined that 71 percent of the earth is water. History

Tells us that the earth is constantly being replenished with living water. Water evaporates from the earth and is collected in clouds producing rain which returns it to earth. 

God looked at the dry land and the sea and proclaimed it good. He looked at growth on earth and proclaimed it good. The goodness of

The Lord endures forever. 

The earth and the waters were created on the first day. The divine call 

Educated them to the full exercise of their duties. God ordained all 

Believers before the foundation of the earth and have educated us to 

The duties of good work.

I can only imagine as the earth rose to its heights of dry land and mountains that there was a mighty rush of water into their divine

Places of seas and rivers. What we know about the earth is that it

Is full of hollow places containing water beneath the surface of the earth. It is evident by the wells Abraham dug for himself, family and flocks. Genesis 21:25

God created everything in darkness covered by water. He then called

Everything into order by His word. We all started in the darkness of

The mother's womb covered in water  and were born into light for

God’s use.  

When God says good, I can assume His creation is perfect and good

For the use according to His Will.
