GOD FAVORS THOSE HE LOVES
Gen
21:1-10
A NEW WOMAN IN CHRIST
1 Now the Lord was
gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord
did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at
the very time God had promised him.
A. Our past does not affect our future with the Lord.
1. Fifteen years
earlier, Sarah stop trusting God’s promise of a son to
her and Abraham.
2. She decided to help
God out by given Abraham her maiden to have
a son. Thus Ishmael
was born.
3. Hagar, Sarah maiden,
decided that her son Ishmael would be the heir
to Abraham.
4. For fifteen years,
Sarah had been troubled by the attitude of her
maiden.
5. Sarah’s lack of faith
caused her fifteen years of agony.
B. Even though Sarah and Abraham went out side the will of God,
His promise of a son did
not change.
1. 90 year old Sarai
was baren, but Sarah a new woman in Christ
conceived and had a son.
2. Any man in Christ is a
new creation.
3. God changes our
insides, so we function according to His Will,
3. When God starts
working in our lives, anything is possible.
4. Like Jesus, Isaac was
a miracle birth.
5. Abraham and Sarah
needed to understand that they served a God
in whom all things are possible.
A MIRACLE BABY IS BORN
3 Abraham gave the name Isaaca to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as
God commanded him. 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to
him.
A. God gave Abraham the name Isaac for his son which means
laughter.
When he and his wife was
told they would have a son at their old age,
They laugh.
1. God has a way making
us remember the miracles He has done in our
lives for a testimony to Him.
2. When we look back
over our lives we can see our mistakes and how
God continued to correct and bless us.
3. We are not perfect
but God’s plan for us is perfect.
B. Sometimes God allows us mess up so He can grow us up.
1. Sometimes our mistakes
puts us in predicaments where we
have to call or
wait on the Lord.
C. The circumcision of the baby at 8 days was a sign of the
covenant
God made with Abraham
of the blessing of many nations and the
Promise of the land of Canaan .
GIVING GOD THE CREDIT
6 Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who
hears about this will laugh with me." 7 And she added, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah
would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."
A. Sarah understood finally that the God she serves could do
anything to
Anybody He pleases,
anytime He wants to.
1. When she look at her
old and the fact that She and Abraham had a
child she saw the
miracle work of God.
2. It was a matter she could
discuss with her friends and relatives with
great pleasure.
B. The God we serve is an awesome God.
1. He keeps His promises
regardless of our faithlessness.
2. He keeps His promises
regardless of the errors of our ways.
SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM YOUR DISTRACTIONS
8 The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned
Abraham held a great feast. 9 But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to
Abraham was mocking, 10 and she said to Abraham, "Get rid of that slave woman and her
son, for that slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with my son
Isaac."
A. After the birth of Isaac, Sarah regained her confidence in
herself and
the position as wife of
Abraham.
1. It is obvious that Hagar, Sarah’s maiden had been mocking
her
for her lack of a son for 16 years.
2. Hagar had been the
thorn in Sarah side for the last time.
3. Instead of blessing
Sarah for the birth of Isaac, Hagar continued
to despise her.
4. It is oblivious that
Hagar’s attitude had been passed on to
her son.
5. It was Ishmael who
mocked Sarah in disrespect to her position.
B. This time Sarah was justified in getting Hagar and her son out
of her camp.
1. Hagar wanted Ishmael
to claim the birthright as Abraham heir because he
was the first born of
Abraham.
2. God had made it plain
to Abraham and Sarah that Isaac was the intended
heir of the covenant
with them.
