THE FIRST AND SECOND COMING OF JESUS
Isaiah 11:1-10
THE GENEALOGY OF JESUS
V:1 "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; his roots a Branch will bear fruit."
A. We are all rooted in our parents, grandparents and all
descendants.
1. We are all connected
to past generations
2. What ever
happen in past generations shapes and molds us for the future
work of God.
3. Our past tells
where we come from, but does not define where we are going.
B. Isaiah connects the genealogy of Jesus to Jesse the father of King David.
1. The sins of
Jesus forefathers led to the Babylonian
an Assyrians captive.
2. God ended His
punishment of Israel
with the promise of an everlasting King.
3. God's promise
of an everlasting King is found in the covenant God made with
Abraham some 1200
years earlier.
a. Genesis
17:6-7
" I will
make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come
from
you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting
covenant between me and you
and your
descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the
God of your
descendants after you."
b. God made a
covenant with King David that there would be an everlasting
kingdom
from his generation, 300 years earlier than the time of Isaiah.
2 Samuel
7:16
"Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your
throne will
be established forever.'"
4. Between the past promises of God and the
trials and tribulations of our past
is the
positioning of God for our future.
C. From the birth of Jesus came the Church .
1. From the
Church came believers from all nations
2. We never know
how many people our faith in Jesus will
draw to Him.

OF THE CHURCH
V:2-3. " The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him — the
Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power ,the
Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord —
3a. and he will
delight in the fear of the Lord.

works.

accepted Jesus as their personal savior has the indwelling

in the Word of God that empowers believers.

1:7
"The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of knowledge,
but
fools despise wisdom and discipline."
c. Those who
follow Jesus are wiser than the world. The story
of Daniel
and the 3 other Hebrew boys indicate the success of
following
God.
Daniel
1:20
In every
matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned
them, he
found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his
whole kingdom.
3. The spirit
of counsel and power.
a. Any wise
counsel we have comes from the Lord.
b. The Word
of God is full of stories of men and women who
relied
on God to make decisions.

To God
belong wisdom and power;
counsel and understanding are his.
4. The Spirit of
knowledge and the fear of the Lord
a. Jesus.,
even though He was God did not rely on Himself
when He
walked the earth.
b. Jesus
has full and complete understanding of His Word.
John
7:16-17
Jesus
answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me.
If
anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes
from
God or whether I speak on my own.
c. Jesus
reverence His Father. The first step
toward knowledge is the
fear of
the Lord.
d. It is a
blessing to believers to be able to abide in God's Word.
JESUS THE FINAL JUDGE
V:3b.-4. "He will not judge by what he sees with his
eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness he
will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the
earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of
his lips he will slay the wicked."

A PERIOD OF
HARMONY ON EARTH
V:6-9. The wolf will
live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the
lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down
together and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8 The infant will
play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the
viper's nest.
9 They will neither
harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the
knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

30 Jesus said, "This voice was for
your benefit, not mine. 31 Now is the time for
judgment on
this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 But I,
when I am
lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself."
2. The millennium
kingdom ends with Satan being released for a short period
of time in a
last attempt to deceive God's people.
